Anda An Tsolais

«Anda An Tsolais» is a made up name, constructed with words from Icelandic and Irish, and can roughly be interpreted as «Ghost of Light».

Private Project

Anda An Tsolais is a project from high school. After many painting assignments this was the first time we were asked to deliver a 3D object. The task was to work with negative and inverted forms and the empty spaces of an object. The sculpture should highlight these forms, trying to make them the subject of the visitor's eye and attention. Anda An Tsolais is a sculpture that exists only through embracing these empty spaces and making them visible.

«The mirror is, after all, a utopia, since it is a placeless place. In the mirror, I see myself there where I am not, in an unreal, virtual space that opens up behind the surface; I am over there, there where I am not, a sort of shadow that gives my own visibility to myself, that enables me to see myself there where I am absent: such is the utopia of the mirror.»
