«Breathing Pillow» is an interactive installation and for me the first time to work with sensors, an Arduino and some code snippets.
All a visitor sees when first coming to the installation is a polythene sheet and a pillow, inviting her/him to lay down. As soon as there is pressure detected on the pillow, the polythene sheet starts filling up with air. The filled air pillow shapes comfortably around the visitor's body, enclosing it from all sides. A rotating air valve makes the whole polythene pillow grow and shrink just a tiny bit, but clearly noticeable for the visitor. The interval of growing and shrinking is adjusted to the breathing rhythm of a sleeping person, helping the visitor to calm down just by laying there and being embraced in this comforting rhythm.
